He made it! Oh, wait, he stumbled on a bottle and broke his neck against a box.

On behalf of Olgierd he delved too deep, and too greedily until he actually caught the eye of Gaunter O'Dimm. We talk to Shani, and some Skyrim references and glorious Witch Hunter killing later, we meet a professor who feels like somebody straight out of a Lovecraft story. But since she's almost literally just around the corner, I can't really picture who would ignore this bit. After this we get the optional objective to go and talk to Shani. And before leaving, he stabs a dude in the eye and brain with a spoon. As is his wont, he pulls some laywer-level contract bullshit and we have to mess around with Olgierd some more. We return to Oxenfurt and have a nice little chat with Sata-, I mean Gaunter O'Dimm. The whole situation of remembering who you are, forgetting who you are and oblivion makes me think of how Terry Pratchett started to discuss identity more in his later works, after he was diagnosed with Alzeimhers. It's sad to see her and her world disappear, but I feel that that is better. Both because I needed to fulfill the final wish, and because I reasoned that oblivion was better than her current fate. In the final conversation with Iris, I asked her to give me the violet Rose. Dodge out of that mess when things get hairy. They won't really be stunlocked, but I noticed that they won't turn you into mincemeat the way I thought would happen. Now's your chance to step in with Whirl (or the whirlwind Fast Attack move, whatever it's called) and spin around for a little bit. Then dodge by them so that all (or most of them at least) of them lunge at you, going past you. Once you have all six chasing after you, manovuer around them until they're bunched up. I went for the achievement where you fight all of the phantoms at once, which was seriously difficult before I figured out the trick to the fight: The Greatest Fear version of Olgierd is very Silent Hill with the jerky, unnatural movements. Until finally, we face the nightmare version of Olgierd that he had become in Iris' mind. Like the shadow of his former self that he had become, Olgierd hangs over all of Iris' memories. Despite his long career, I don't think Geralt has ever encountered anything quite like this. In his interactions with Iris, Geralt says quite a lot with silent looks. The fact that she became so sad that her heart 'simply burst' is really wrenching.

The scars and stitches heavily imply that whatever The Caretaker was, it had its face removed and replaced with a featureless slab of flesh. There's something incredibly disturbing about that creature's lack of a face. And speaking of digging, we run into The Caretaker. We travel to the von Everec estate and start digging around.
